Shaving Kit Bag: Sizing a Dopp Kit to Your Actual Gear
A shaving kit bag for wet shaving should be at least 10 inches wide, around 5 inches deep, and lined with water-resistant nylon. That size lets a safety razor lie flat, a full soap tub stand upright, and a damp brush sit without being crushed.
Most dopp kit roundups size bags for a toothbrush and a few travel bottles. A wet shave kit is heavier, bulkier, and wetter, and the brush is what ruins a badly chosen bag.
Size the bag around your three bulkiest items
Start with the razor, the soap, and the brush. Everything else, from the alum block to the aftershave, squeezes into the gaps.
- The razor lies along the width. A double edge razor fits sideways in any bag 10 inches wide.
- The soap sets the depth. A full tub needs about 5 inches of depth to sit flat under the zip. A 3-inch bag pushes you toward tubes or a travel size shaving cream.
- The brush needs headroom and air. Knot-down in a tight corner, it stays damp for hours.

Read the depth column first. The 3-inch Campaign Toiletry Shave Kit suits a razor, a tube of cream, and a travel brush. For a full soap tub and a standard brush, the 5-inch-deep bags are the ones that close without strain.
The lining decides whether a damp brush mildews
Leather or waxed canvas on the outside matters less than what touches your wet gear. A coated nylon lining wipes clean and does not hold water. A linen interior, like the one in the Benjamin, soaks up whatever a wet brush drips.
No lining fixes a brush zipped away soaking wet. Shake it hard, let it air-dry overnight, and pack it last. If you have to leave with it damp, carry it in a vented brush tube and open the bag as soon as you arrive.
Match the shape to how you actually shave
Flying carry-on changes the list. Under the TSA 3-1-1 rule, shaving cream must be in a container of 3.4 ounces or less, while a hard soap puck is a solid. The razor itself is allowed in the cabin, but loose blades are not. Our guide on how to pack a wet shave kit for travel covers the blade workaround.
At home or on longer trips, a square kit or a wide-mouth wash bag stays open on the counter like a tray. In small hotel bathrooms, a roll-up that hangs from a towel bar keeps your kit off a wet sink.
A well-built bag also lasts through years of blade packs and soap tubs, so it adds almost nothing to your wet shaving cost per shave. Buy the size your real kit needs once, instead of replacing a cheap bag that mildewed.
